ME: Food Writer Had Seizure, Drowned in Shower

Ozersky, 47, who lived in Manhattan, was found in a room on the seventh floor of the Conrad Chicago Hotel on May 4.

Food writer Josh Ozersky drowned in his hotel shower after suffering a seizure earlier this month, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Wednesday.

The 47-year-old's death was ruled an accident.

Ozersky, of Manhattan, was found May 4 in a room on the seventh floor of the Conrad Chicago Hotel at 521 N. Rush. He was in Chicago serving on the awards committee of the 2015 James Beard Awards, which were presented the night he passed away.

An initial autopsy after the death was inconclusive.

A James Beard Award winner himself, Ozersky was the former editor of New York magazine’s Grub Street food blog and author of "Colonel Sanders and the American Dream” (2012), “The Hamburger: A History” (2008) and “Meet Me In Manhattan: A Carnivore’s Guide to New York City” (2003). In October he became editor-at-large at Esquire.
