Former High School Basketball Star Fatally Shot in Chicago

A former high school basketball star from Chicago was shot and killed while visiting his hometown Monday.

Jonathan Mills, 26, was shot just before 1:30 p.m. at Keeler Food and Deli in the 4100 block of West Roosevelt on the city's West Side, according to police and his former coach.

Mills, once a standout player at the North Lawndale College Prep who led the school to two state semifinal berths, had been playing professional basketball for Canada after playing college hoops at Southern Mississippi. He was home visiting family before a tournament in the area when he was gunned down, friends and family members said.

"My heart is pierced," said his former coach Rev. Howard Brown. "It's real sad to think of the pain mom is suffering now."
