“Person-of-Interest” IDd in Death of Former Music Teacher

Jennifer Kocsis' body was found near a Gary, Ind., elementary school early Saturday

A person-of-interest has been identified in the death of a 37-year-old former music teacher and respite care worker, according to police in Gary, Ind.

The badly beaten body of Jennifer Kocsis was found behind an abandoned elementary school early Saturday morning, just hours after she was seen leaving a Pepe's Restaurant in Griffith, where she'd gone to sing karaoke.

Kocsis, described by friends as a trusting and innocent soul, unwittingly gave a ride home to the "person of interest" after telling her he lived near her and needed a ride home.

A police source characterized this murder as "a crime of opportunity."

Kocsis' visitation and funeral are scheduled for Thursday.
