Body of Columbia College Student Found Near River

Jay Polhill was last seen at his residence hall on Feb. 28

The body of a 20-year-old Columbia College Chicago student who had been missing since last month has been found.

Jay Polhill, of Lena, was found shorly before noon Thursday floating in the Little Calumet River near 126th and Stony Island.  He was last seen alive on Feb. 28 at his residence hall.

Friends and family had turned to the Internet in hopes of getting the message out of Polhill's disappearance.

"Jay is a truly wonderful guy whose many friends, girlfriend and family love him dearly.  He is an extremely talented photographer," someone wrote on the social news site reddit.com.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our friend and student Jay Polhill, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, with whom we are in touch and will help in any way we can," said Columbia spokesman Steve Dauffman in a written statement.  "Jay was a hard-working photography major and his instructors enjoyed having him in class.  He will be greatly missed by the faculty, staff and students whose lives he touched.

An autopsy was inconclusive, with results pending police investigation, according to the medical examiner's office.

Lena is about 10 miles west of Rockford near the Wisconsin state line.
