State Police: 4 Vehicles on I-57 Struck by Gunfire Saturday

Illinois State Police say that at least four vehicles were struck by gunfire on Interstate 57 on Saturday night, causing the northbound expressway to be shut down for several hours.

In a press release, policed said that a shooting was reported at 127 Street just after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Four vehicles were hit by the gunfire, and one woman suffered a graze wound, but refused medical treatment.

Preliminary reports indicate that a person in a black vehicle was the one who opened fire, but it’s unclear who the gunman was, or how many occupants were in the vehicle.

The northbound lanes of the interstate were shut down until just after 10:30 p.m. Saturday night as police investigated the shooting. It was the second shooting in less than 24 hours on the thoroughfare, after two people were injured in a shooting on the southbound side of the highway in Morgan Park.

Anyone who witnessed either shooting is encouraged to call Illinois State Police at 847-294-4400, and callers are advised that they can remain anonymous.
