Indiana AG: State Has $400M in Unclaimed Assets

Residents should visit IndianaUnclaimed.gov

The state Attorney General's Office on Monday put out a reminder to Indiana residents that more than $400 million in money and property sits unclaimed.

Attorney General Greg Zoeller encourages people to visit www.IndianaUnclaimed.gov to search for their name, their relatives, neighbors and friends' names.

Unclaimed property includes investment earnings, insurance proceeds and benefits, wages and money from savings and checking accounts. It does not include abandoned vehicles or real estate.

The Attorney General's Office returned a record 97,000 properties totaling more than $60.6 million in unclaimed property last year.

Zoeller recommends that business owners and charitable organizations check annually for unclaimed  property.
