Chicago Summit to Focus on Gangs, Mexican Cartels

Street gangs and Mexican drug cartels will top the agenda Friday for the first Tri-State Regional Gang Summit.

Authorities from Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin are slated to attend the first-of-its-kind meeting in Oak Brook, organzed by the Chicago Crime Commission and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Zach Fardon, the U.S. attorney for Chicago, Jack Riley, the head of the DEA's Chicago office, as well as state's attorneys and sheriffs are also participating. The executive director of the Chicago Crime Commission, Joe Ways, says 150 regional law enforcement leaders from the tri-state area will attend.

In recent years, gang-driven violence and the role of cartels in trafficking throughout the Midwest have become hot topics.
