More than a dozen Illinois companies made the Fortune Global 500 list for 2016.
Fortune's annual list ranks the world's largest companies, and this year a total of 14 firms in Illinois were included. It's an improvement from the 12 spots the state held in 2015.
The world's largest corporations span 226 cities in 33 countries, according to the Fortune, with 134 of them found in the United States.
Fortune's Global 500 deemed the following Illinois companies to be among the biggest powerhouses in the global workforce:

Illinois also held 14 spots in Forbes' list of the largest private companies in the nation.
