Adam Rubin, 23, died last Friday evening near Shoshone Falls, along the Snake River, in southern Idaho

A Long Grove man died while BASE jumping off a cliff in Idaho, officials said Monday.

Adam Rubin, 23, died last Friday evening near Shoshone Falls, along the Snake River, in southern Idaho. Witnesses told officials from the Jerome County Sheriff's Office that Rubin struck the canyon wall after his chute failed to fully deploy.

Three other people involved in the jump were uninjured, Lt. Dan Kennedy said, adding that it took rescuers about 45 minutes to reach Rubin's body, which came to rest about 50 yards above the edge of the river.

Rubin was a graduate of Adlai E. Stevenson High School and became infatuated with sky diving and BASE jumping after his first jump at the Chicagoland Skydive Center in Rochelle, the Daily Herald reported.

Details on Rubin's services were not available by Tuesday morning.
