Ice Storm Warning, Winter Weather Advisory Issued For Parts of Chicago Area

What to Know

  • Ice Storm Warning until 9 a.m. Tuesday for DeKalb, Kane, LaSalle, Cook, Grundy, Will and Kendall counties in Ill. and Lake County, Ind.
  • Ice accumulations of up to half an inch are possible

An Ice Storm Warning was issued Monday night for parts of the Chicago area in addition to a Winter Weather Advisory.

The warning remained in effect until 9 a.m. for DeKalb, DuPage Kane, LaSalle, Cook, Grundy, Will and Kendall counties in Illinois along with Lake County in Indiana. 

Ice accumulations of up to half an inch are possible.

A Winter Weather Advisory will also remain in effect through midnight for Lake and McHenry counties.

Motorists should expect slippery roads and limited visibility, according to the National Weather Service, and are advised to use caution on the roadways.   

Anywhwere from one to three inches of snow will be possible by Tuesday afternoon, though the highest accumulations are expected in areas north of Chicago.

Strong winds are expected to develop late Tuesday, bringing the potential for blowing snow and a threat for power power outages, especially in areas with significant ice accumulations.
