Man Charged With Breaking Into Lincoln Park Home, Abusing Young Girl

A 25-year-old Indiana man was charged Tuesday with the horrifying sexual abuse of a young girl in her Lincoln Park home in May.

Hunter Best, of Indianapolis, was charged with aggravated sexual abuse, home invasion and criminal trespass to a residence - all felonies, Chicago police said in a statement.

He was also charged with one misdemeanor count of battery, officials said.

Best was extradited from Indiana after he was identified as the suspect in a terrifying attack on a 13-year-old girl in May.

The attack took place at around 2:15 a.m. on May 27 in the 400 block of West Belden Avenue, police said in a community alert.

Best went into the young girl's bedroom while she was sleeping and sexually abused her, according to police.

That community alert warned of a second attack nearby roughly 20 minutes later. Authorities said an 11-year-old girl was asleep in her home in the 500 block of West Grand Place when a man came into her bedroom and abused her.

While Chicago police initially connected the two attacks, Best was only charged with the first on Tuesday - though officials said more charges could be announced when he appears in bond court.

Details on how Best was identified as the suspect were not immediately available, with police saying simply that he had been positively identified through surveillance footage.

Best was expected to appear before a judge for a bond hearing on Wednesday, officials said.
