Shots Fired at Hobart Police Officers

Shots were fired at police officers in northwest Indiana who reportedly witnessed a shooting between two vehicles.

An official with the Lake County Sheriff's Department told NBC Chicago the officers witnessed a shooting between two vehicles on the 1600 block East 62nd Avenue, near Hobart's border with Merrillville. While investigating, they found someone inside one of the vehicles with a gunshot wound.

When the officers approached the other vehicle, which had driven off the road, someone inside fired shots at them. The officers returned fire and hit the person inside the vehicle.

Both gunshot victims were in critical condition at 5 a.m. Friday.

A preliminary administrative review of the incident revealed no wrongdoing by officers, Hobart police Capt. Garrett Ciszewski said in a statement.

The incident was sent to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for investigation.
