Student Recorded Women in Bathroom: Cops

Christopher Byers, a Harper College business major faces three years in prison

A Harper College business major faces three years in prison after he was found using a cell phone to record video of a woman sitting in a bathroom stall, officials said.

Christopher Byers, 21, of Elk Grove Village, is charged with one count of unauthorized videotaping, a class 4 felony. He was released from police custody Thursday after posting 10 percent of his $2,000 bond.

Byers was arrested Wednesday morning after a 32-year-old woman saw his cell phone under the stall, ran out and told college police, authorities said.

"The judge ordered him to stay off campus until he is authorized to return by the college administration," college spokesman Phil Burdick said, according to the Daily Herald.

School administrators said they're awaiting a full report before determining what sanctions Byers should face.  He could face probation or be suspended or expelled. Safety and privacy measures at the school could also be re-evaluated.

Byers is expected to appear in court Nov. 27.
