Man in Surveillance Video Tied to Gurnee Abduction?

Teen claims she was abducted, assaulted earlier this month

Gurnee Police on Tuesday released surveillance video obtained from a convenience store that may show the man who abducted a 19-year-old woman from a mall and sexually assaulted her.

"This is obviously a dangerous individual. To commit a stranger abduction such as this and commit a sexual assault, he needs to be arrested," said Gurnee Police Commander Jay Patrick.

The woman said a man approached her with a gun in the Gurnee Mills Mall parking lot on June 5 and forced his way into her car.  He made her withdraw money from an ATM in Grayslake and then drove to a church parking lot where he assaulted her.

Police say he then told her to drive to a convenience store in Forest Park, where he let her go.

""Apparently he entered the 7-Eleven after he got out of her vehicle and we were able to obtain security video from the store," said Patrick.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 30s or early 40s.  He stands between 5 feet 8 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds.  He has short brown or blond hair and a goatee and was wearing black baggy pants, a white T-shirt and black shoes.

"There’s nothing really unusual, tattoos or anything like that, that are visible that will help us try to identify this individual so we are asking the help of the public," said Patrick.

He’s urging anyone with information to contact the Gurnee Police at 847-599-7000.
