Two children were shot while playing in their front yard Sunday afternoon in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side.

The children, a 13-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were playing in their front yard around 4:18 p.m. when unknown offenders approached with guns and started firing, police said.

The girl was shot in the arm and the boy sustained a graze wound to the buttocks, police said. Both were taken to University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital.

The victims are not thought to be the intended targets, police said.

Wentworth Area detectives are investigating, but no one is in custody Sunday evening.
