Girl Safe After Car She Was Sleeping In Was Stolen, Police Say

The girl was sleeping in the car while her mother was getting food from a restaurant

A 2-year-old girl is safe after she was briefly kidnapped on Sunday morning after the car she was sleeping in was stolen in the city’s Lawndale neighborhood.

Chicago police say that the girl was left inside a running vehicle in the 3900 block of West Roosevelt at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The girl’s mother had gone inside a restaurant to pick up food, and when she returned, the vehicle was missing.

Police quickly located the vehicle in the 3900 block of West Polk, and located the girl safely inside. The child was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital as a precaution, according to police.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to Area North detectives, and no one is in custody.
