Garcia Meets With Fioretti Ahead of Runoff Election

Progressive Ald. Bob Fioretti, defeated in his quest to become Chicago's mayor, met with Cook County Commissioner Jesus "Chuy" Garcia on Monday.

The 2nd Ward alderman is among three former mayoral challengers who have yet to line up behind one of the two remaining candidates. William "Dock" Walls has indicated no preference and Willie Wilson said he's met with both Garcia and Mayor Rahm Emanuel but hasn't yet made a decision.

"Bob and I have been talking since election night and our dialogue continues," Garcia said. "We did have a good conversation."

Garcia declined to elaborate on what the pair talked about Monday, but the meeting came on the same day the candidate received a major endorsement from Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Over the weekend, Garcia was endorsed by Rep. Danny Davis and by Teamsters Local 743, which endorsed Emanuel four years ago. Meanwhile, a poll out over the weekend showed that Emanuel and Garcia are in a statistical dead heat in the race.

The runoff election is April 7.
