Metra’s Southwest Service will experience massive delays and cancellations after a freight train derailment in Chicago on Friday.
According to an agency spokesperson, a Norfolk Southern freight train derailed near 40th Street in Chicago, blocking the Southwest service lines in the area.
The agency suggests that commuters use the Rock Island District or Heritage Corridor trains instead as clean-up begins on the derailed cars.
The delays are expected to last for several hours, and at least one train has already been cancelled as a result of the derailment.
