Freezing Rain In Chicago Area Will Likely Turn to Light Snow

Thursday morning wind chills expected to be in the teens

The Chicago area is already preparing itself for a brutal cold front as a snowy mix is likely to hit the area Wednesday night into the early hours Thursday.

A round of light rain and snow has developed Wednesday, especially north of I-88, though is unlikely to leave accumulation.

There is light freezing drizzle being reported before the transition to all snow.

Drivers are advised to take caution for slick condition on untreated surfaces.

Temperature highs Thursday will likely only reach into the mid-30s, but wind chill values in the morning will dip into the teens in most locations.

According to the National Weather Service, this means that morning low temperatures are expected to be roughly 22 degrees below average.

Heading into Friday, temperatures will struggle to reach freezing.

Temperature highs bump into the low-40s Saturday, then fall again Sunday with a mix of rain and snow expected.

Next week will see January-like temperatures as highs plunge into the 20s, struggling to reach near 30 degrees. And things could feel much colder depending on wind speed and wind chill values.
