Dad Charged in Accidental Infant Shooting

The 7-month-old boy was shot in the leg when another child in the home fired a gun, officials said

The father of a 7-month-old boy who was accidentally shot by another child Wednesday night has been charged with putting a minor in danger. 

Levar Jones, 26, was charged with having an invalid firearm owner's identification card and endangering the life and health of a child, police said Thursday.

The shooting happened about 7:45 p.m. near South Laflin and West 63rd streets in  Englewood, police said. The 7-month-old boy was shot in the leg when another child in the home fired a gun. Police said the other child was believed to be under 10.

The baby was taken in "stable" condition to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.

Multiple weapons were recovered from the home and police were speaking to all residents.
