Jesus A. Garza, 36, of the 200 block of Gertrude Street, has a lengthy criminal record, including  convictions for armed violence, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, aggravated battery and obstruction of justice.

Garza stole the vehicle on Nov. 15, 2010 after the victim left his car running outside of his home in the 200 block of Seneca Street in Elgin, prosecutors said.
 
He was convicted on May 31 by a Kane County jury. His one count of unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle is a Class 2 felony.
