Elgin on Alert After String of Robberies

Three banks were robbed Wednesday afternoon; two in Elgin and one in East Dundee

Update: Third man arrested

Residents in a portion of west suburban Elgin on Wednesday night were told to stay home and lock their doors as authorities searched for a bank robber.

Three banks were robbed Wednesday afternoon; two in Elgin and one in East Dundee.

Police arrested two people following a car and foot chase just after 5 p.m., but a third person remained at large as of 8 p.m., authorities said. The third person was believed to be armed, and police were asking residents in the Big Timber Road and McLean area to stay inside and lock their doors and windows, and to call 911 if they saw anything out of the ordinary.
