“America's Most Wanted” Comes to Elgin

Cops seek a jealous taxi driver who allegedly murdered another man over a woman

The search for a suspected killer from northwest suburban Elgin is going national with the help of "America's Most Wanted."

Police said Tuesday they plan to work with the TV crime show to help find a man wanted in connection to the murder earlier this year of 29-year-old Hugo Navarro.

Amilkar Antonio Caro is wanted for shooting Navarro to death Feb. 4 outside his home on the 700 block of Adams Street, police said.

Navarro is believed to have been involved with a woman who once was seeing Caro, police said.

Caro, a 33-year-old taxi driver, reportedly was following the woman, who had stopped to see Navarro at his home at 1:30 a.m. that day.

Police suspect that Caro became jealous of Navarro and, after the woman left, got out of his taxi and shot Navarro several times.

"We are asking for the community's help in obtaining any information that will develop new leads as to Caro's whereabouts," said Elgin police Detective Heather Robinson. "By working with such a recognized and national crime-fighting show, we believe we can find Caro and question him in relation to this case."

Caro has relatives in various areas throughout the United States and Mexico. He should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.
