Elderly Woman Dies After Fall During Bridgeport Dispute: Police

An elderly woman died after falling to the ground Thursday afternoon just south of U.S. Cellular Field in Bridgeport.

About 3:50 p.m., a female opened a car door during an argument, causing a 38-year-old woman to fall into 82-year-old Pearlie Thomas near her home in the 3600 block of South Wells, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Thomas fell to the pavement, hitting her head, authorities said.

She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she died at 8:20 p.m. An autopsy Friday did not rule on her cause or manner of death pending further investigation.

The female who opened the car door fled the scene, police said. Area Central detectives and the police Major Accidents Investigation Unit are handling the case.
