A man and woman were reportedly fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide in the Edgewater neighborhood Monday afternoon.
The shooting happened outside on the 6200 block of North Sheridan Road at about 3:20 p.m., according to police News Affairs Officer Darryl Baety.
As the victim and the shooter walked side-by-side toward the lake, the gunman opened fire, firing three shots, then at least five more while the victim was down, the Chicago Tribune reported, citing a witness.
The man then turned the gun on himself, he said.
They were taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where they were pronounced dead, Baety said.
Belmont Area detectives are investigating. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office could not confirm the deaths as of 4:20 p.m.
