Thick, black smoke billowed from a fire on the roof of a three-story townhouse in Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood on Friday.

The Chicago Fire Department said the fire was at 5757 North Sheridan Road.

While smoke from the fire was visible for miles around, even as far as the Loop, the blaze was extinguished by about 3:15 p.m. and there were no injuries, officials said on Twitter.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
