Drew Peterson Transferred to Menard Prison

Former cop was sentenced last week to 38 years in prison for ex-wife's murder

It's been a week since Drew Peterson was sentenced to 38 years in prison for murdering his third wife, and already he is seeing the inside of his third prison.

The Illinois Department of Corrections announced Thursday the 59-year-old Peterson was transferred to Menard Correctional Center in southern Illinois. Peterson was incarcerated in the maximum security Pontiac Correctional Center after a short stay at Stateville Correctional Center.

"We're not happy about the transfer as the two hour drive is now an eight hour drive," said attorney David Peilet. "We will still communicate, but face-to-face contact will obviously be limited."

Peilet said the transfer came without warning.

The ex-suburban police officer was sentenced for murdering Kathleen Savio in 2004. He's a suspect in the 2007 disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson.

Peterson has been in custody for nearly four years. He will receive credit for the time he's already been incarcerated. Peterson's projected parole date is May 7, 2047, when he'd be 93.
