Don Wade, Longtime WLS Radio Host, Dies at 72

Broadcaster spent 27 years on WLS radio

Longtime WLS-AM (890) morning man Don Wade died Friday at age 72 after a yearlong battle with a brain tumor, the station announced Sunday evening.

"Don went out as he lived and broadcasted, like a lion," said the announcement on the WLS website.

With wife and co-host Roma, Wade was a fixture of Chicago radio, first on WUSN-FM (99.5) and then for 27 years on WLS.

"Last Friday morning, my hero, my best friend, my soulmate left this mortal coil behind and entered the realm of spirit while wrapped in my loving arms," she said in a statement. "I love him more than life itself."
