Hotel Assignments Unfold for 2020 DNC in Milwaukee

When Democrats gather in Milwaukee for the Democratic National Convention next July, the delegates will not be staying solely in hotels in and around Milwaukee, as the lodging may even extend to the Chicago area.

The hotel assignments are expected to be announced Wednesday as DNC organizers meet in San Francisco.

Multiple sources say Illinois' delegation has been assigned to the Marriott West in suburban Waukesha.

The hotel is located about 20 minutes from the Fiserv Forum, the arena serving as the central location for the convention, scheduled for July 13 to 16.

"It’s great, I mean it’s about 15 miles west of the convention center. Twenty-minute drive at night, in the morning, 35 minutes during rush hour, any Chicagoan is used to it," Democratic Party of Illinois Vice Chair Michael Cabonargi said.

"We found out almost 11 months before the convention of where we’re going to be which gives us great time to plan and negotiate some competitive rates," he added.

The hotels closest to the arena will go to delegates from swing states like Michigan, Pennsylvania and Florida, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

It's also possible that some Chicago-area lodging may be utilized as well, with the Journal Sentinel reporting that "hotels around O’Hare come into play because of their size and ability to handle large group bookings."
