A Chicago man was charged Monday after he allegedly fired shots from his car on the Dan Ryan Expressway during what's being described as a road rage incident.
Dantrell Fuller, 31, was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful discharge of a firearm, Illinois State Police said. A female passenger in the vehicle was not charged.
Police said the driver of a Volvo SUV, Rosa Alexander, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another SUV after shots were fired from the car, authorities said.
The incident unfolded shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the outbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway.
Two cars were initially involved, Illinois State Police said. Someone inside a gold Infiniti fired shots at the Volvo near South 83rd Street. Alexander was not hit but lost control and crashed into a lighter-colored SUV.
"She has a small child. You could have killed her," Alexander's aunt, June Bradley, said. "When you shoot, your intent is to kill, whether the person is the target or not."
Alexander suffered minor injuries. Bradley says her aunt doesn't know Fuller, and they're trying to figure out why she appeared to be targeted.
"I just feel like nothing should get you that mad. Especially when it comes to driving," Bradley said.
State police officials said the vehicle with the alleged shooter was pulled over about a mile away.
