4 Cubs Named Finalists for MLB End-of-Season Awards

The Chicago Cubs have already taken home the biggest hardware of all this season as they won the World Series, but they could also be taking home some individual trophies as well.

A year after winning Rookie of the Year honors, Kris Bryant could very well win the most prestigious individual trophy in the sport, as he was named a finalist for the National League MVP award. Bryant blasted 39 home runs and drove in 102 RBI in his second season in the big leagues, and he also was named a National League All-Star for the second consecutive season.

Washington Nationals infielder Danile Murphy, who racked up a .347 average and 25 home runs, was also a finalist, and Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager, who also received a finalist nod for NL Rookie of the Year, is the third man on the list.

The Cubs will also have a pair of pitchers up for the National League Cy Young Award, as Kyle Hendricks and Jon Lester were both named as finalists for the trophy on Monday. Hendricks led the National League in ERA this season, and Lester racked up 19 wins as the ace of the staff for the eventual world champions.

Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer had a 20-win season this year, and he will round out the trio of nominees in a tight National League race.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon, who won National League Manager of the Year honors last season during his first campaign with the squad, is nominated for the award for the second year in a row, but he will have some stiff competition for the trophy.

Washington Nationals skipper Dusty Baker led his team to a National League East title this season, and he was named as a finalist on Monday. Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is considered to be the favorite for his work as the manager there, and he helped lead his team to a division title despite facing some serious injury issues, including to ace pitcher Clayton Kershaw.

On the American League side of things, Jeff Banister was nominated for his work with the Texas Rangers, as he led the team to the best record in the A.L. Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona may have been outfoxed by Maddon in the World Series, but he was also a finalist for the A.L. trophy, and Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter rounds out the trio of finalists.

The American League MVP award will be contested among three dominant candidates, including Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, Boston Red Sox star Mookie Betts, and Los Angeles Angels slugger Mike Trout.

For the American League Cy Young Award, Rick Porcello of the Boston Red Sox was named a finalist, as was Indians ace Corey Kluber and Detroit Tigers hurler Justin Verlander.

American League Rookie of the Year will be a hotly contested trophy, as Detroit Tigers hurler Michael Fulmer, Cleveland Indians outfielder Tyler Naquin, and New York Yankees slugger Gary Sanchez were all named as finalists for the award.

The National League race is also an interesting one, as a pair of Los Angeles Dodgers were named as finalists, with Kenta Maeda and Corey Seager both earning that honor. Washington Nationals outfielder Trea Turner is also a finalist for the trophy, which went to Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant last season.
