Cubs Place Koji Uehara on Disabled List With Strained Neck

After being removed from Tuesday’s game against the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs reliever Koji Uehara has been placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Uehara, who is dealing with a right neck strain, has been a strong addition to the back end of Chicago’s bullpen, sporting a 3-4 record and a 3.55 ERA in 43 appearances this season. He also has a pair of saves to his credit.

The reliever will be replaced in the bullpen by Justin Grimm, who was recalled from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding roster move. Grimm has a 5.18 ERA in 36 appearances for the Cubs in 2017.

The Cubs’ bullpen has been inconsistent of late, with pitchers like Carl Edwards and Justin Wilson hitting rough patches. Other pitchers like Hector Rondon and Pedro Strop have stepped up, but Grimm will need to pitch well in Uehara’s absence as the Cubs try to get back on track.
