Die-Hard Cubs Fans Make Their Team Pride Eternal

Die-hard Cubs fans are making their love for the North Siders eternal—literally.

The Bohemian National Cemetery, located at 5255 N. Pulaski on Chicago’s Northwest Side, is offering up a burial wall designed as a Wrigley Field replica for Cubs fans.

“[It’s] a place where people can come, instead of being sad about their loved ones being gone, they can come to a happy place and think about ball games that they went to as a child and think about mom, dad, or their brothers,” said Chuck Betzold with the cemetery.

Dubbed “Beyond the Vines.,” the ultimate resting place for Cubs fans offers so-called “eternal skyboxes,” or places for cemation urns containing the remains of lifelong Cubs fans. The wall is covered with ivy and surrounded by dirt straight from Wrigley Field. It also features a home plate and chairs from the stands for loved ones to sit in.

The wall was built by Dennis Mascari, who bought the property, built the wall and donated it to the cemetery before eventually being buried there himself.

As the Cubs continue with their historic season, hoping to make it to the World Series this year, it’s clear that some die-hard fans didn’t have the chance to see what many fans hope will be the team’s best season in more than a century.

“I’m not sure if people will be rolling over in their urns,” Betzold said. “But I think you’re going to see a lot of people coming here with tears in their eyes.”

Some local companies ar also offering Cubs caskets, complete with tailored velvet and matching logos.
