Cubs Activate Craig Kimbrel From Injured List

The closer will be available for the Cubs when they take on the Pirates Sunday

The Chicago Cubs have made a big roster move on Sunday, activating closer Craig Kimbrel from the 10-day injured list.

Kimbrel, who has been out since Aug. 5 with inflammation in his right knee, has nine saves so far this season with the Cubs, but does have a 5.68 ERA in 14 total appearances with the North Siders since signing with the club in June.

The Cubs were also permitted to add a 26th man to their roster for the annual Little League Classic game, which will take place on Sunday in Williamsport, PA, and they added outfielder Mark Zagunis to that spot.

Zagunis has three doubles and five RBI’s in 29 games with the Cubs this season.

To make room for Kimbrel on the active roster, the Cubs optioned pitcher Duane Underwood to Triple-A Iowa prior to Sunday’s game. Underwood has a 2.70 ERA in three relief appearances with the Cubs.
