A man who police say attacked a Chicago Transit Authority bus driver with a hammer during a fare dispute has been charged.

Adan Valle, 18, of the 5500 block of South Fairfield Avenue, was charged Wednesday with one count of aggravated battery of a government employee.

Valle struck the Route 53A bus driver Tuesday afternoon, sending the driver to the hospital in serious condition.  Other passengers on the bus held Valle down until police could arrest him, authorities said.

He's expected to appear in court for a bond hearing on Thursday.
