Storms Knocked Out Power to Nearly 30,000 Residents

Nearly 30,000 residents were left without power in northern Illinois after a series of thunderstorms rolled through the area.

As of 11 p.m. on Friday night, just under 30,000 people were without power. Most of the outages were in Winnebago County, with over 6500 residents in the dark, and nearly 5500 customers were without power in both DuPage and Kane Counties.

Just over 4000 Cook County residents are without power as a result of the storms, and approximately 3000 residents in McHenry County lost power as a result of the storms.

According to a press release issued by ComEd, the company has activated its emergency response center, increased staffing, and is readying trucks and equipment to deal with outages should they occur.

“This is the second round of storms to move through the area this week and more severe weather is predicted for Friday and into the evening,” Executive VP Terrence Donnelly said. “We implemented our storm preparedness actions with increased staffing to enable swift and safe response to impacted customers.”

Customers are encouraged to call 1-800-EDISON1 if they encounter downed power lines, or if they need the utility company to disconnect power in the event of a flooded basement.

For customers looking to report outages, they can text OUT to 26633, or via the company’s website.
