Chris Sale Sets New White Sox Record

The Chicago White Sox couldn’t figure out a way to beat the Kansas City Royals on Sunday, but one of their pitchers still had a historic day at the ballpark as Chris Sale set a new team record.

With his 12-strikeout performance against the Royals, Sale became the first pitcher in White Sox history to strike out 200 or more batters in four consecutive seasons. His performance Sunday gave him 205 on the season through 201 and two-thirds innings pitched.

The game also marks the 34th time in his career in which he’s struck out 10 or more batters, giving him twice as many as the next-closest pitcher (Ed Walh, with 17) in team history, according to the White Sox.

Finally, Sale made one more bit of history, as he became the first White Sox pitcher since 1996 to throw eight or more innings in five straight starts, according to Stats Inc.

Sale, who set a White Sox franchise record by striking out 274 batters in the 2015 season, has made the All-Star team in five consecutive seasons, and he’s been in the top six of Cy Young Award voting in each of those campaigns. So far this season he has a 15-8 record for the White Sox.
