2 Dead, 8 Wounded in Overnight Shootings Across Chicago

In the most recent fatal shooting, a man and a woman were stopped at a red light in Humboldt Park when another car pulled up next to them and someone inside opened fire, police said

Two people were killed and at least eight others were wounded in shootings across the city between Friday night and early Saturday.

Two people were shot, one fatally, in Humboldt Park about 11:35 p.m., authorities said.

A man and woman were driving eastbound in the 3300 block of West North Avenue and, while they were stopped at a red light, another car pulled up next to them and a suspect shot them, according to police.

A man, thought to be between 26 and 30 years old, was shot in the head and a woman, 26, was shot in the left leg, police said.

Both victims were taken to Stroger Hospital, where the woman’s condition was stabilized, according to police. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the police.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but did not release additional details early Saturday.

A 17-year-old boy was shot to death in Englewood about 10:15 p.m..

Johnathan L. Stewart was shot in the chest and right leg about in the 700 block of West 66th Place, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Stewart, of Country Club Hills, was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead 15 minutes later, according to the medical examiner’s office.

The shooting may have been a drive-by, police said.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

A 24-year-old man was standing in the 6900 block of North Sheridan about 5 a.m. when a suspect in a white car fired shots, according to police. The man was shot in the right shoulder and taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston where his condition was stabilized.

A 34-year-old man was standing on the porch of a residence in the 4700 block of West Gladys about 3:22 a.m. when a suspect fired shots and then ran. He was shot in the abdomen and leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

A 23-year-old was driving in the 3400 block of West Fullerton about 2:06 a.m. when he heard gunfire and felt pain, police said. He suffered a graze wound to his head and took himself to Norwegian American Hospital. He was later transferred to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

About 1:40 a.m., a 23-year-old man was driving south in the 5200 block of South Pulaski when a van pulled up alongside and someone flashed gang signs. The two began to argue and eventually someone in the van opened the door and shot the man in the head. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Another man was critically wounded in a North Lawndale neighborhood shooting about two hours earlier.

The 33-year-old was standing on the rear porch of a home in the 1200 block of South Avers about 11:45 p.m. when he was shot twice in the abdomen, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

The weekend’s first shooting occurred in Little Village.

Two men, both 20, were in the 2500 block of South California about 9 p.m. when two other males walked up and shot them. Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. One man was shot in the left leg and the other in the right leg. Their conditions had stabilized.
