5 Dead, at Least 13 Wounded in Chicago Shootings

Five people are dead and at least 13 more have been wounded in shootings across the city of Chicago this weekend.

Three of the fatal shootings occurred on Sunday alone, including a shooting in the 1300 block of South Kominsky on Sunday evening. A 24-year-old man was shot in the right leg, and later died at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to police. 

No one is in custody, and Area Central Detectives are investigating the case. 

Another fatal shooting occurred Sunday morning in the 5300 block of South Washtenaw. At approximately 5:35 a.m., a man was found face down in an alley with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. 

The weekend’s first fatality occurred just before 6 p.m. Friday evening in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood. According to police, a 34-year-old man was shot by a person in a dark colored minivan. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and no one is in custody in his slaying, according to authorities.

Another person was killed in the 10200 block of South State Street at approximately 8:30 a.m Saturday morning. A man, aged 40-to-45 years old according to police, was found face down in the snow by a neighbor with a gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and Area South Detectives are investigating.

Friday:

  • A 34-year-old man was shot and killed in the 4300 block of South Honore at approximately 5:52 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • A 45-year-old man was shot in the left leg in the 6900 block of South Cornell at approximately 8:21 p.m., according to police. He was taken to Northwestern Hospital in stable condition.
  • In the 400 block of East 133rd Street at approximately 8:35 p.m., a 23-year-old man was shot while standing in the doorway of a home. He was taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to his back, according to police.
  • Two people were shot while standing outside in the 7500 block of South Shore at approximately 10:39 p.m., police said. An 18-year-old man was taken to Northwestern Hospital after being shot in the back by a person inside a passing vehicle, and a 13-year-old boy was taken to Comers Children’s Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to his hand.

Saturday:

  • Two people were shot in the 2200 block of North Laurel just before 1 a.m., police said. A vehicle drove up to the car that the pair was sitting in, and one of the occupants of that vehicle opened fire. A 26-year-old woman was shot in the face and is in stable condition at Community First Hospital. A 26-year-old man was shot in the shoulder and ear and is in stable condition at Illinois Masonic, police said.
  • A 22-year-old man was shot while sitting in a vehicle in the 4200 block of West Congress Parkway at approximately 7:30 a.m., police said. The man was struck twice in the shoulder, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
  • A man in his early-to-mid 40’s was discovered lying face-down in the snow with a gunshot wound to the head at approxmately 8:30 a.m.
  • A 27-year-old man was shot in the back and side in the 6700 block of South Michigan Avenue at aprpoximately 2 p.m., police said. He was taken to St. Bernard’s Hospital and was later transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition. 
  • A 24-year-old man was shot in the legs while walking in the 2900 block of West Roosevelt. He was taken to Mount Sinai in fair condition. 

Sunday: 

  • A 26-year-old man was shot in the leg and chest while sitting in a car in the 3000 block of South Trumbull at approximately 3:30 a.m. Two men walked up to the vehicle and one of them opened fire, striking him twice. He was taken to Mt. Sinai in serious condition, police said. 
  • Two people were shot in the 10600 block of South Perry at approximately 4:05 a.m. A 62-year-old man was shot in the stomach and right leg, and was listed in critical condition at Christ Hospital. A second man was pronounced dead after being shot in the stomach and buttocks.
  • A 23-year-old man was shot in the right foot at approximately 4:20 a.m. in the 2700 block of West 23rd Place. He was standing on a sidewalk when a person in a passing white minivan opened fire. He was taken to Mount Sinai in good condition.
  • A man in his late 20's was found face down in an alley with a gunshot wound to the head at approximately 5:35 a.m. The incident occurred in the 5300 block of South Washtenaw, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • A 24-year-old man was shot to death in the 1300 block of South Kominsky at approximately 6:20 p.m. He was taken to Mount Sinai with a gunshot wound to his right leg, and later died from his injuries, police said.
  • A 27-year-old man was shot in the hand in the 5900 block of South Wood at approximately 6:25 p.m. He was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in stable condition. 
No one is in custody in these shootings unless otherwise noted.
