7 Dead, at Least 21 Wounded in Shootings Across Chicago

Seven people are dead and at least 19 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago this weekend.

On Saturday evening, five people were killed in a shooting at an apartment complex in Chicago’s Dunning neighborhood, according to police.

According to authorities, four of the victims were sitting down to dinner when an unidentified assailant entered the apartment and opened fire. All four victims were killed in the shooting, police said.

A fifth victim in another apartment was also killed, police said.

The suspect in the shooting has been taken into custody, and charges are pending.

In another fatal shooting Saturday evening, two people were sitting inside a vehicle in the 7500 block of South Dobson at approximately 6:44 p.m. when two men walked up to the car and opened fire.

A 30-year-old man was shot in the head, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A 30-year-old woman was shot in the right thigh and is in serious condition at the University of Chicago Medical Center, according to police.

No suspects are in custody, and Area South Detectives are investigating.

Just after 2 a.m. Sunday in the 8400 block of South Kenneth, a 27-year-old man was shot in the chest by two men driving by in an unidentified vehicle, witnesses told police. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Friday –

Just after 8:30 p.m. in the 4600 block of West Barry, a 30-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk when two men got out of a car and opened fire, striking him in the back. Police say the man was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in stable condition.

Saturday –

  • In the 1700 block of West 51st Street at approximately 1:51 a.m., a 23-year-old woman was riding in a car when a man walking nearby fired a shot at the car, striking her in the face. She was taken to the University of Chicago in serious condition, according to police.
  • A 40-year-old man was walking in the 8200 block of South Peoria just before 2 a.m. when he was shot in the lower back, police said. The man said he did not see where the shot came from, and his condition has been stabilized at a local hospital.
  • At approximately 5:52 a.m. in the 1600 block of South California, officers responding to a ShotSpotter alert found a 17-year-old boy who had been shot in both legs. Police say they located shell casings and an unoccupied sedan with bullet holes, but the boy would not cooperate with their investigation. He is in serious condition at an area hospital.
  • In the 1000 block of North Springfield at approximately 2:46 p.m., a 19-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk when he suffered a graze wound to his lower left leg. He refused medical attention, police said.
  • A 22-year-old woman was walking in the 400 block of North Mayfield at approximately 3:56 p.m. when a person in a vehicle started a verbal altercation with her. A witness to the argument attempted to intervene and pulled out a gun. A struggle then started between the man and the witness, and the gun went off, striking the woman in the knee. She was listed in stable condition, and a weapon was recovered at the scene.
  • At approximately 5:13 p.m. in the 5100 block of West Division, a 36-year-old man was standing in a funeral home parking lot when he was shot in the thigh. He was taken to an area hospital in stable condition, police said.
  • In the 8600 block of South Elizabeth at approximately 5:54 p.m., two people were walking when a man approached them from behind and opened fire. A 14-year-old boy was shot multiple times in the chest and was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition, and a 26-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and was taken to an area hospital in good condition, police said.
  • A 24-year-old man was in a park in the 10400 block of South Green Street when he heard gunshots. Police say the man was hit in the left leg, and is in good condition at Christ Hospital.

Sunday –

  • A 24-year-old man walked into Loyola Hospital with a gunshot wound to his ankle early Sunday, police said. The man said he was standing in the 1800 block of North Mason at 12:42 a.m. when a man in a black sedan opened fire.
  • In the 7500 block of South Stewart at approximately 2:25 a.m., a 22-year-old man was involved in a verbal altercation when he was shot in the abdomen, police said. The man was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
  • Just after 4 a.m. in the 4300 block of West Wilcox, a 20-year-old man was outside a residence when four men walked up to him and opened fire, striking him in the right thigh. He was listed in stable condition at a local hospital, police said.
  • A 36-year-old woman was the passenger in a vehicle when a silver Dodge Charger pulled up alongside the car and a man inside opened fire, striking her in the thigh. Police say the incident happened in the 2900 block of West Lexington at approximately 5:21 a.m., and that the woman is in stable condition.
  • In the 4900 block of West Armitage Road at approximately 3:50 p.m., a 22-year-old man was driving a vehicle when he was shot in the upper right arm, police said. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
  • Just before 6 p.m. in the 200 block of North Latrobe Avenue, a 21-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk when four men got out of a vehicle and opened fire, striking him in the left buttocks and left thigh. Police say the man was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition.
  • A 23-year-old man was walking in the 8300 block of South Burnham at approximately 7:30 p.m. when a man walked up to him and opened fire. The man was hit in the lower back, and is in critical condition at the University of Chicago.
  • In the 1000 block of North Menard Avenue at approximately 7:38 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot by a person in a passing dark-colored vehicle. Police say the man was shot in the lower left leg and suffered a graze wound to his neck, and he’s in stable condition at Stroger.
  • A 3-year-old boy was critically wounded in a shooting Sunday in the Back of the Yards on the South Side. The child was sitting in a parked vehicle with his mother and two other children about 11:40 p.m. in the 5200 block of South Peoria Street when three males walked up and started shooting, according to Chicago police. The boy was shot in the head, police said. His mother drove to the 5500 block of South Halsted Street, where she flagged down an unmarked Chicago police car. The child was driven to Comer Children’s Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, police said. 

Monday –

  • A 29-year-old man was shot while standing on a sidewalk around 2:18 a.m. in the 300 block of South Kilbourn. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition with wounds to his chest and right leg, police said.
