Dangerous Beach Conditions, Scattered Showers Expected Saturday

Rip currents and high waves are expected on Lake Michigan

A low-pressure system centered over Michigan will continue to bring the threat of scattered showers and dangerous beach conditions along the lake on Saturday.

According to NBC 5 Storm Team Meteorologist Kalee Dionne, dangerous waves and rip currents will be present due to the system, which is generating winds blowing to the south anywhere from 15 to 20 MPH.

Residents are urged to stay out of the water due to the dangerous conditions.

There will also be frequent periods of rain and occasional thunderstorms due to a stationary low pressure system that is currently over western Michigan. That system is sending showers spiralling in a counter-clockwise direction around the low, bringing periods of potentially heavy rain to the Chicagoland area.

That system will hang around through at least Sunday, meaning that the rain will potentially impact plans for area residents and tourists.

The rain will begin to clear out late Sunday and into Monday, paving the way for a gorgeous start to the work week with temperatures near 80 degrees. High temperatures will creep closer to 90 on Tuesday and Wednesday, with sunny skies expected.
