4 Dead, 52 Wounded in Shootings Across Chicago Since Friday Evening

In just over an hour early Saturday morning, 10 people were shot in six different incidents

A violent weekend left four people dead and at least 52 others injured, including a 10-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy, in shootings across Chicago.

This marks the second weekend in a row where more than 50 people were shot in Chicago. Last weekend, eight people were killed and at least 45 others were wounded, reportedly making it the city's most violent two-day weekend since Father's Day 2013.

The 10-year-old girl was among three people shot Sunday afternoon in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood, police said. The shooting happened at about 12:50 p.m. in the 1400 block of East 66th Place.

The girl suffered a graze wound to the neck and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital in good condition, according to police.

Two teenagers were also wounded in the shooting. A 19-year-old man was critically injured after he was shot in the back, and an 18-year-old woman was shot in the right calf. Both were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Another incident Sunday left a 13-year-old boy and two other teenagers injured. The boy was inside a residence in the 11300 block of South Throop with two other boys, ages 15 and 16, when they heard a loud noise at about 2:35 a.m., police said.

The boys then ran to a window, and an unknown person outside fired shots at the window, according to police. All three boys were transported to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries from broken glass and other debris.

At the hospital, a doctor determined an unknown object was lodged in the 13-year-old's skin, police said. Detectives have classified the incident as a shooting.

The first fatal shooting incident happened around noon on Saturday in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

A 25-year-old man was inside an apartment in the 700 block of East 47th Street with 34-year-old Marvin Lee when the two got into an argument, police said. Lee then opened fire on the man, who was struck three times. The victim was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, and he was pronounced dead at 12:43 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Police said at the time that the shooter called police saying the man had broken into his home, but it was later discovered that the two knew each other and had an altercation prior to the shooting.
Lee faces one felony count of first-degree murder, police said. He was scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.

Early Sunday, a 28-year-old man was shot to death in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the South Side.

Marcus Cox was standing outside about 4:20 a.m. in the 9600 block of South Morgan when someone fired shots in his direction, striking him in the abdomen, according to police. Cox, who lived on the same block as the shooting, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 3:19 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said.

About an hour earlier, a man was gunned down in the Pilsen neighborhood on the Lower West Side.

Abraham Barrera, 23, and another man, 24, were driving in the 1100 block of West 18th Street about 3:20 a.m. when someone walked out of an alley and opened fire, authorities said. Both were shot in the head.

Barrera, who lived in the 4100 block of West 58th Place, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died at 5:33 a.m., authorities said. The 24-year-old was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. Investigators think the shooting was gang-related.

Hours later, 25-year-old Quinton D. Goins was shot to death while sitting inside a car in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

Goins was inside the vehicle in the 3900 block of West Roosevelt at about 3 p.m. Sunday when another car drove by and a shootout between the two cars commenced, police said. The man was shot in the back and shoulder and taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
