Chicago Sky Clinch Playoff Berth for 4th Straight Season

For the fourth consecutive year, the Chicago Sky are heading to the WNBA playoffs after their victory over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday afternoon.

Behind 24 points and five assists from Cappie Pondexter and 16 points and a pair of steals from Courtney Vandersloot, the Sky beat the Sun 96-86 and punched their ticket to the postseason.

Pondexter also hit a major milestone in the game, reaching 6,277 points scored in the WNBA to surpass Lisa Leslie for fifth all-time scoring.

It's been a rough go of things for the Sky recently, as star player Elena Delle Donne has missed the team’s last two games with a thumb injury. She’s been averaging 21.5 points per game for the Sky this season, and is coming off a season in which she won the league’s MVP award for the first time in her career.

The Sky currently have three games left in their regular season as they jockey for position in the Eastern Conference. They are a half-game behind the Atlanta Dream for second place in the East, and while they can’t catch the New York Liberty for first, they still have an opportunity to finish ahead of both the Dream and the fourth-place Indiana Fever.

The Sky lost in the conference semi-final last season, losing a three-game series to the Fever in the first round of the postseason. They reached the WNBA Finals for the first time in franchise history in 2014 before losing to the Phoenix Mercury in a three-game sweep.
