A sailor from North Chicago was killed over the weekend while serving in Afghanistan.

Navy Petty Officer Dion Roberts, 25, died Saturday during a training exercise. Officials said an investigation was underway.

His family headed to Dover Air Force Base on Monday to receive his body.

"My brother lived his life to the fullest,” Jaleesa Roberts told the Lake County News-Sun. "He never took life for granted. He had been to Bahrain. He would say that I better be grateful for what I have because a lot of people don’t have half of what I have, not a quarter of what I have."

Roberts graduated from North Chicago High School in 2005. Flags flew at half-staff at the school on Monday.
