Two Dead in Murder-Suicide in Mall Parking Lot

Woman told other people to call police when she saw gunman: witnesses

Two people are confirmed dead in a murder/suicide outside the Chicago Ridge Mall.

A woman in her 40s was about to board a Pace carpool shuttle at about  6 p.m. when she saw a man, whom she recognized, approaching her, Chicago Ridge Police Chief Robert Pyznarski explained Tuesday evening.

The woman, feeling threatened, then told other car poolers with her to call police.

"Within seconds, he approached her.  He shot her at least once or twice in the chest.  She fell to the ground.  He fired another maybe two rounds.  At that point, he turned the gun on himself and one fatal shot went to himself," Pyznarski said.

The gunman is a man in his 50s.  Their bodies were found on top of each other in the parking lot of Sears Auto Center.

Witnesses said the two people knew each other and arrived at the parking lot in the same vehicle.  Their names have not yet been released.

Chicago Ridge Mall is owned by the Westfield Group, which has interests in and operates 119 shopping centers around the globe, according to the company website.
