8 Hurt When Porch Collapses

Two children were among those injured on Chicago's west side, official said

Eight people, including two children, were hurt when a porch collapsed Sunday evening in Chicago's west side Humboldt Park neighborhood.

The collapse happened in the 700 block of North St. Louis Avenue just before 6 p.m., police News Affairs Officer Ana Pacheco said.

Four adults were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, Pacheco said. A 38-year-old woman was listed in serious condition. Another adult was taken to Norwegian-American Hospital. Another adult and two children were taken to St. Mary’s, Pacheco said.

Nine people were injured a year ago in a porch collapse in Tinley Park, and four were injured in Lakeview when a porch collapsed there in 2010. The deadliest porch collapse occurred in Chicago 11 years ago when more than 10 people were killed and more than 50 others injured in Lincoln Park.
