    Fred Rice served as superintendent of the Chicago Police Department from 1983-1987.

    Former Chicago Police Superintendent Fred Rice has passed away at the age of 84, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

    Rice reportedly died Monday after a long battle with lung cancer.

    His career as a police officer began in 1955.  He served as Chicago's police superintendent from 1983 to 1987.
