Officer, Woman Struck by Vehicle in Hit-and-Run on Chicago's South Side

A Chicago police officer and a woman were struck in a hit-and-run crash on the city's South Side early Sunday.

The incident occurred around 2:20 a.m. as officers were handling a possible domestic dispute in the 6800 block of S. State St. in the Park Manor neighborhood, according to Chicago police.

A 43-year-old male officer was interviewing a 24-year-old woman in the street when a maroon-colored vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed struck them before fleeing the scene, officials said.

Both the officer and the woman were taken to Stroger Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to police. The officer sustained "multiple injuries," police said, but was discharged from the hospital and will recover at home, CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted at 2:50 p.m.

Further details on the woman's injuries and condition were not immediately available.

One person was taken into custody in connection with the incident, Guglielmi tweeted at 10:43 a.m.

Charges are pending, Guglielmi said, and the investigation remains ongoing.
