‘Survival Instinct': Movers Save Woman Hunted By Man After Split-Second Decision

Three men who work for a moving company are being credited with saving the life of a woman who was being hunted by a man with a rifle outside a West Loop dental clinic Thursday.

Cody Grant, Josh Lara and Mike Zaininger said they were moving furniture in the alley behind the 1000 block of West Madison Street Thursday morning when a frantic woman came running out to them pleading for help.

“A lady ran up … hysterical screaming that someone was trying to shoot her,” said Zaininger. “She was coming from the office next door and she needed one of our phones to call the police.”

An armed man had reportedly entered the lobby of Skyline Smiles—and he was looking for his ex-girlfriend who had escaped through the backdoor.

“The look in her eyes – you could tell – and she was shaking – you could tell that it was something that was way more serious than we comprehended at the time,” Lara said. “But yeah, all three of us put our heads together we all had the survival instinct.”

The three hid the woman in the back of their moving truck—and moments later witnesses say they heard a gunshot.

Police say the 37-year-old was found dead in the alley and a gun was recovered.
