Chicago's Newest Baseball Team Gets Its Name

A new Chicago-area baseball team finally has its name, and it perfectly captures the spirit of the Windy City.

The new team, which will be based in Rosemont and will begin play in 2018, will be named the Chicago Dogs, the team announced on Friday morning. As part of the festivities, the team held a special event at Wiener Circle, and gave away free hot dogs throughout the city.

“We wanted a name that captures the spirit and culture of Chicago,” Dogs co-owner Shawn Hunter said in a statement. “It had to be fun and authentic. Ultimately, our goal is to make every day fan appreciation day at the new ballpark in Rosemont.”

The new ballpark, which is being constructed in the same area that was offered to the Chicago Cubs for a new ballpark back in 2013, will seat 6300 people and will be ready for the start of the Dogs’ inaugural season in the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball.

Wiener Circle on Clark St. will host a special event until midnight to celebrate the new team, according to the press release.

Ticket packages are on sale for the new team, according to their website.
